DIRECT LINK BETWEEN DEMENTIA AND HEARING LOSS

The reason for the link between hearing loss, cognitive decline and dementia is still unknown.

Experts who've studied the relationship between hearing loss and dementia suggest that a common pathology may cause both conditions.  They suggest t that the strain of decoding sounds over the years may overwhelm the brain. More stress and strain on the brain is known to leave people vulnerable or susceptible to dementia.

Another theory is that hearing loss could lead to dementia by making individuals more socially isolated, a known risk factor for dementia and other cognitive disorders.

At any rate, if you suspect you or a loved one is suffering from the strain of not hearing properly, perhaps a little help could go a long way!
